This painting was a part of the Pride Day collection presented at the Museum of Discovery and Science, Family Pride Day (Sat. Jun 24, 2023‎), made with oil paint. Sally Ride was the first American woman to fly in space. Although she kept her personal life private, she is still acknowledged as the first LGBTQ+ astronaut! In 2013, after she passed away in 2012, she was awarded the Medal of Freedom for her work and actions towards empowering girls in STEM, by President Barack Obama. Her life partner, Tam O'Shaughnessy, accepted it on her behalf.
