Description:
This portrait was a part of the Pride Day collection presented at the Museum of Discovery and Science, Family Pride Day (Sat. Jun 24, 2023), made with collaborating artist, MelissAllegories, using acrylic, acrylic fluorescents, and oil paint. Sylvia River, a mixed-race Venezuelan-Puerto Rican trans woman, tirelessly fought for the inclusion of transgender people. Silver River, together with Marsha P. Johnson, a black transgender woman who was like a mother to her, were leading figures in the Stonewall Inn riots of 1969 (when the community fought against a police raid).
